I see what you mean with the scrolling text. I had kind of chalked it up to the x86 version of OS X, but I guess it's the display.

I had to look pretty close at that gradient to notice any banding. Man I thought I had good eyesight too (I'm definitely sensitive to dim spots behind a display) Maybe I should stop looking for the problem - ignorance is bliss, right?
