What is Apple doing w/ Firewire?

So, the new macbooks don't have Firewire yet today I see an update for "Migration and DVD/CD Sharing" and the details are:

"This software is recommended for all users and provides enhanced customization capabilities and improved performance for migration over FireWire, ethernet, and wireless networks.

For further information on this update, please visit this website: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3174"

So is Apple going to continue FW support or not? I've been reading articles where a lot of people believe FW is going to go away but Apple is still supporting features and updating processes involving it. Any thoughts?
