Firewire over ethernet. Still in development though. If Apple could provide this, it *might* be an acceptable solution. I think target disk mode would still be out, but you could at least mount a FW drive or connect a FW camera in this manner. The MB HDs are so easily accessible now, you could remove it, pop it in an enclosure and use it that way as a work-around to TDM. Not really acceptable, but it's better than nothin'.
