Have Apple fixed this bug? . . .

Curious about Leopard...have Apple fixed this bug they never fixed in Tiger?

I want to change the name of a file and hide the extension. I do a Get Info on it, and use the info panel to do my work. I change the name, then click "hide extension," and the name friggin' changes back to what it was before. I shouldn't have to remember to click the checkbox first because of a silly bug.
